Web Log – December 2023 – Breast Implant Removal and Mastopexy

I look for trends in my Practice as well as Plastic Surgery in general.  Over the last year or two, I have seen a distinct increase in women who choose to have their implants removed and their breasts lifted.  Most of these women are older and have now larger breasts that hang off their implants.  Some have implant leaks, contractures, or (rarely) fear their implants are making them feel unwell.  They may have had multiple previous surgeries elsewhere.  At a certain point, the implant is no longer contributing to the patient’s happiness / positive body image and it is time to change things up.  Patients are usually happy with the change and it is one less thing to worry about as they get older.  Thinner patients with smaller implants tend to want to keep their implants as they have less droop of their breasts off the implant and would look very deflated without the implant volume.
